Description
8″ Circular Wood Minimalist Art – “Emergent” – Laser Etched – Made with Cherry Wood
The Design:
To make this piece I started by digitally generating the design with online generative art creators then edited with Adobe Illustrator. This design was inspired by recent time spent in both the deserts of Arizona and the forests of Oregon. While creating this design I was thinking about how micro-events compounded over Geologic time create the environment define the daily world we experience. Sometimes things build up, and sometimes things break down, but we can only usually see a snapshot of that process.
The Production Process:
I hand select the cherry wood from a local supplier near Mt. Tabor in Portland, Oregon, then do the making down at my workshop at Mini Make Fab Lab & Gallery, a makerspace serving small artists in Inner NorthEast Portland.
I use a laser engraver / cutter to add the pattern and cut the wood, then complete the work by sanding and finishing by hand.
The wood grain is natural, so each one will look slightly different, all surfaces are treated with a food-safe oil, to prevent stains and and damage.
Getting it to you:
I package and ship all my items myself, and gift wrapping and shipping is always included for no extra charge. Comes with mini easel for displaying on your desk or countertop.
I can make this piece on other types of wood, and at different sizes, please contact me directly for commissions.
Thank you for looking at my work!
(Video in this listing is from making a similar piece that’s also one of my items in my shop, the process I use for etching this peice is almost identical)
